Tenure-Track Professorship for Oncoimmunology

The University of Freiburg has been granted 12 Tenure-Track Professorships from the Tenure-Track-Programme and now invites applications in the context of this programme for the

Tenure-Track Professorship for Oncoimmunology

at the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of General and Visceral Surgery.

This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered. It is to be filled as soon as possible.

This professorship is also suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.

The appointee will represent the area of tumorimmunology in teaching and research. By performing basic and translational research the appointee will contribute to the profile formation of  the Department of General and Visceral Surgery. The research will concentrate on all aspects of the pathogenesis of colorectal carcinoma with a special focus on the role of the microbiome on tumorgenesis and metastasis and its immunological control function. The research focus will be the investigation of the human gut flora by modern NGS techniques. The teaching activities involve tumor immunology and intestinal inflammation. Furthermore we expect long-term experience in tumor immunology, a documented track-record in third-party funding and contribution to current and future joint research projects as well as the initiation of new research projects including research associations.

Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree in medicine and/or molecular medicine, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record.

This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it can be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W 3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation.

The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science (https://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/service/tenure). As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Medicine have to be met.

Full Professorship (W 3) for Virology with focus on Molecular Virology

to be filled by October 1st, 2019.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of virology in research and teaching. The candidate should strengthen the established research priorities of the institute by focussing on topics of virus-host interaction, viral pathogenesis or viral genomics.

In addition to competent knowledge in virology the successful candidate is expected to have internationally visible research achievements, documented success in external fund raising, publications in internationally leading journals and commitment to teaching in virology. A close networking with the DFG-funded collaborative research centers and participation in teaching duties in medicine, molecular medicine, biology and pharmacy is expected.

Participation in patient services is optional.

Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine, veterinary medicine or biosciences, educational qualification, an exceptional doctorate degree, an excellent publication record and a board certification in medical microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology if applicable. The future holder of this position will represent the field of microbiology and molecular immunology in research and teaching. With this position the faculty aims to further strengthen and to expand the current scientific focus of the institute in the areas of molecular and cellular regulation of immune system and host defence, pathogen-host-interaction and microbial pathogenesis, through novel scientific and innovative technical approaches.

This professorship is particularly suitable as a starting position for highly qualified early career researchers.

Requirements for the appointment are, in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine or the life sciences, teaching qualification, a doctoral degree of very high standing and an excellent publication record. For applicants with a medical degree, the specialty Microbiology, Virology and Infection Microbiology (completed or intended) would be an advantage. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG) in the areas of microbiology/immunology.

The successful applicant will have solid experience and broad knowledge in the scientific areas of microbiology and/or immunology and is expected to participate in the institute’s teaching activities in the courses medical microbiology (medicine) and microbiology/immunology (BSc and MSc molecular medicine), as well as in existing and planned scientific consortia in Freiburg (e.g. CCI, SFB 1160).

For an appointee with the board certification Microbiology, Virology and Infection Epidemiology (Facharzt) the participation in microbiological diagnostics is obligatory.

The position is tenured according to § 50 para 1 LHG.

to be filled as soon as possible.

The future holder of this position will represent the subject in research and teaching. She/he will be the medical director of the department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the medical center – University of Freiburg.

The successful candidate must have longstanding clinical experience in the complete field of trauma surgery. Applicants are expected to be experienced in personnel and clinical management, as well as clinical economics. Excellent, internationally recognized scientific credentials, allocation of third-party research funding and teaching abilities are required for this position.

Furthermore a close, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the Integration into the main research activities of the faculty of medicine, is expected.

to be filled by October 1th, 2019.

The future holder of this position will represent the subject in research and teaching. She/he will be the medical director of the department of gynecology and obstetrics at the medical center – University of Freiburg. The clinical and scientific focus will be on gynaecology, gynaecological oncology and senology. Experience and expertise in translational research in these fields is wanted.

The successful candidate must have longstanding clinical experience in the complete field of gynecology. Applicants are expected to be experienced in personnel and clinical management, as well as clinical economics. Excellent, internationally recognized scientific credentials, allocation of third-party research funding and teaching abilities are required for this position. Furthermore a close, interdisciplinary cooperation, an active role in the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg – CCCF, and the Integration into the main research activities of the faculty of medicine are expected.

Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine, educational qualification, an exceptional doctorate degree, an excellent publication record and a board certification in gynecology and obstetrics (Facharztanerkennung). We are looking for a personality who, in particular, coordinates and strengthens the existing “Lehr- und Forschungspraxennetz“ and works in a close collobaration with the “Lehrbeauftragten für Allgemeinmedizin“ as well as the facilities of the Medical Center – University of Freiburg and the faculty of medicine. Due to the high importance in student training, excellent didactic competence as well as profound experience with different teaching and learning formats is required.

Possible research areas are in the field of health care research or teaching research. Collaboration and coordination of research activities with other scientist in Freiburg is expected.

An der Medizinischen Fakultät der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg i.Br. ist am Physiologischen Institut zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt die

W 3-Professur für Physiologie
(Nachfolge Professor Jonas)

zu besetzen. Die Stelleninhaberin/ der Stelleninhaber vertritt das Fach Physiologie in Forschung und Lehre; mit der Professur ist die Leitung der Abteilung I des Physiologischen Instituts verbunden.

Gesucht wird eine Persönlichkeit mit international ausgewiesener wissenschaftlicher Reputation. Der/die gesuchte Wissenschaftler/in muss sich durch herausragende Forschungsleistungen insbesondere auf dem Gebiet der Neurowissenschaften auszeichnen und soll die bisherige Arbeitsrichtung des Instituts komplementieren. Erwartet wird auch die intensive Mitwirkung an einem der bestehenden Sonderforschungsbereiche (SFB 746, 620, 850, 592) oder Exzellenzcluster (‚BIOSS - Centre for Biological Signalling Studies‘, ‚BrainLinks-BrainTools’) sowie an der Weiterentwicklung und Stärkung vor allem des neurowissenschaftlichen Forschungsschwerpunktes an der Medizinischen Fakultät.

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium, die Habilitation oder vergleichbare wissenschaftliche Leistungen, sowie mehrjährige Erfahrung in der Leitung einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeitsgruppe, der kompetitiven Drittmitteleinwerbung und der Betreuung von Doktoranden. Erwartet werden ferner Erfahrung in allen Bereichen der Lehre des Faches 'Physiologie', Kooperationsfähigkeit sowie Engagement in der akademischen Selbstverwaltung.

Die Stelle steht unbefristet zur Verfügung und wird nach § 50 Abs. 1 Landeshochschulgesetz besetzt.
