Lecture Series - Pitfalls & Solutions: Good Experimental Design
"Good Experimental Design"
The Office of the Dean for Research of the Faculty of Medicine invites qualified speakers to this lecture series to give a talk about good experimental design. The invited researchers will give you information on specific research topics and provide discussion opportunities with the goal to improve quality and reproducibility of your research data.
Information on the curriculum: In the future, lectures within the series will be repeated regularly following a structured curriculum. The new 3-year curriculum of the lecture series started in October 2022. Please find more information here. |
Target group: Clinician scientists, Postdocs or advanced doctoral students who are actively involved in lab research
Venue: seminar room ground floor, ZTZ, Breisacher Str. 115
Time: 17:00-18:00

Cell and Organoid Culture Studies Speaker: Prof. Tilman Brummer, Institute of Molecular Medicine and Cell Research Tissue culture models, no matter whether they rely on primary cells or established cell lines, represent key tools in basic and preclinical research as well as in drug development and biotechnology. I will provide an overview about the basic principles of tissue culture practice, how cell lines are established from primary cells and how pitfalls can be avoided by choosing the best model. I will also discuss what can be learned from established cell lines, what their limitations are and how isogenic approaches improve experimental design. I will also cover the problems of cell line contamination, not only with microorganisms but also by other cell lines and discuss measures to avoid and detect (cross)contamination. Lastly, I will discuss how recent developments in organoid cultures, in particular patient-derived organoids, accelerate translational research. Please register here. |
