Horizon Europe: Open Call for EIC Transition Open and Challenge 2023

17.02.2023

Eligible in EIC Transition are results from previous projects (EIC Pathfinder, FET or ERC Proof of Concept). These project results should be the basis for ground-breaking innovation and new businesses.

Transition Open has no predefined thematic priorities while Transition Challenge has the predefined challenge “Full scale Micro-Nano-Bio devices for medical and medical research applications”.

ERA-NET JPIAMR: Call for proposals 2023

18.01.2023

The ‘Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance’ (JPIAR) has launched a joint transnational call on “Development of innovative strategies, tools, technologies, and methods for diagnostics and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance” with two topics.

Topic 1: To develop novel, or improve existing, diagnostics, including point of care diagnostics, that can rule out antimicrobial use or help identify the most effective antimicrobial treatment.

Topic 2: To develop or improve existing strategies, technologies or methods, or data use strategies to support One Health AMR surveillance.

IHI has opened Call 3 with the following 5 topics on the Funding & Tenders Portal of the EU Commission. There is a need to involve different industrial sectors, as each proposal must guarantee in kind contributions of at least 45% of the total eligible project costs.

The overall objective of the European Innovation Council (EIC) "Pathfinder" is to develop the scientific basis to underpin breakthrough technologies. It provides support for the earliest stages of scientific, technological or deep-tech research and development. “Pathfinder Open” has no predefined thematic priorities.

European Research Council (ERC) announces call for ERC Advanced Grants 2023

22.12.2022

Researchers of all nationalities with a track-record of significant research achievements in the last 10 years prior to the deadline can apply in any field of research. Applicants should be exceptional leaders in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions. Funding is up to 5 years with a maximum budget of 2.5 million euros.

Call for proposals for ERC Proof of Concept Grants 2023

25.11.2022

All Principal Investigators in one of the ERC grants (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced or Synergy) are eligible to apply for an ERC Proof of Concept Grant. The aim of the Proof of Concept Grant is to enable ERC-funded ideas to progress on the path from ground-breaking research towards innovation. Funding is for up to 18 months with a lump sum of 150,000 Euros.

Horizon Europe: draft work programmes for 2023/2024

The work program of the Health Cluster with the call topics for 2023-2024 is expected to be published by the EU Commission at the end of November 2022.

Science|Business has published the latest Horizon Europe draft work programmes for 2023 and 2024, which can be found on their webseite.

Please note: these are preliminary documents that have not been officially approved by the EU Commission.

 

EU4Health programme: open calls for proposals

21.10.2022

The topics focus on cancer, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and public procurement in the health sector. 

  •  Call for proposals on prevention on NCDs - cardiovascular diseases and diabetes and other NCPs
  • Call for proposals on cancer and other NCDs prevention - action on health determinants
  • Call for proposals to support the roll-out of the second cohort of the inter-speciality cancer training programme
  • Call for proposals to support structured dialogue at national or regional level on public procurement in the health sector - HERA

 

Deadline date for submission: 21.02.2023 or 28.02.2023, 17:00 (depending on the topic).

Innovative Health Initiative (IHI): publication of draft information on future calls

21.10.2022

IHI is publishing the draft topic texts in advance of the official call launch to give potential applicants additional time to start building a consotium and drafting a proposal.

The following topics are under consideration for inclusion in the next IHI calls for proposal to be lauched in late 2022 or early 2023.

IHI call 3 (single stage call)

  • Topic 1: Screening platform and biomarkers for prediction and prevention of diseases of unmet public health need
  • Topic 2: Patient generated evidence to improve outcomes, support decision making, and accelerate innovation
  • Topic 3: Combining hospital interventional approaches to improve patient outcomes and increase hospital efficiencies
  • Topic 4: Strengthening the European ecosystem for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) and other innovative therapeutic modalities for rare diseases
  • Topic 5: Digital health technologies for the prevention and personalised management of mental disorders and their long-term health consequences

IHI call 4 (two stage call)

  • Topic 1: Expanding translational knowledge in minipigs: a path to reduce and replace non-human primates in non-clinical drug safety assessment
  • Topic 2: Patient-centric blood sample collection to enable decentralised clinical trials and improve access to healthcare

 

Please note: It is likely that the topics may change between now and the call launch, and applicants should check the final, approved topic texts once the calls are launched.

The National Contact Point Health has published a brochure with current calls for proposals in the thematic field of health. The focus is on the calls for proposals of the Health cluster in the framework program for research and innovation "Horizon Europe". In addition, calls with health relevance from other program parts of Horizon Europe are listed; these include the program part Research Infrastructures, the European Innovation Council (EIC), the Mission Cancer as well as European Partnerships.

Associations to Horizon Europe

A list of countries associated to Horizon Europe can be found here (February 2023).

Currently, neither Switzerland nor the United Kingdom are associated to Horizon Europe. Institutions from these two countries can currently participate in the projects as third countries. They do not receive EU funding, but will be funded at a national level.

Please note that some Hungarian institutions are no longer eligible for funding in the Horizon Europe Framework Program for Research and Innovation. The decision was made due to violations by Hungary of the fundamental principle of the rule of law. An overview of the affected institutions can be found here.

The information sheet explains how to put together a consortium, where to find consortium partners, what roles there are, what contracts are concluded and what has to be considered regarding the use of intellectual property.

European Commission: Publication of the “Horizon Europe” work programs 2023-2024

22.12.2022

The European Commission has published several “Horizon Europe” work programs with upcoming calls for 2023-2024. Among them are the work program for the ‘Cluster Health’, the work program for the Missions including the Mission ‘Cancer’, the work program for the ‘Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions’, the work program for ‘Research Infrastructures’, and the work program for 'Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area'. In addition, the European Innovation Council (EIC) work program for 2023 has been published.

Furthermore, the European Commission is organizing a virtual information event for the Health Cluster on January 19, 2023. European Health Union: Adoption of the EU4Health work programme 2023

25.11.2022

With a budget of EUR 735,8 million, this work programme will allow for swift progress on priority actions linked to further development of the European Health Union. This includes actions linked to strengthening the EU's resilience to cross-border health threats and implementation of the European Health Data Space, the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe and Europe's Beating Cancer Plan, as well as financing for the European Reference Networks, efforts to address mental health challenges and global health.

Swiss participation in Horizon Europe

10.08.2021

Switzerland will assume the status of a non-associated third country in Horizon Europe with immediate effect and until further notice. Legal entities (including companies and SMEs) based in Switzerland can still participate in collaborative projects but not as coordinator of a project. Funding for Swiss project partners in collaborative projects will no longer be provided by the European Commission but by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation. The participation of Swiss entities in mono-beneficiary instruments is excluded. Further information can be found here.  

 

Strategischer Plan für Horizont Europa veröffentlicht

Am 15. März hat die Europäische Kommission den ersten Strategischen Plan für Horizont Europa für die Jahre 2021-2024 veröffentlicht. Der Strategische Plan bildet die Grundlage für die ersten Arbeitsprogramme und Ausschreibungsthemen für Horizont Europa mit dem Ziel hochwertige und exzellenzbasierte Forschung und Innovation zu fördern. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf dem zweiten Pfeiler von Horizont Europa, "Globale Herausforderungen und industrielle Wettbewerbsfähigkeit Europas".
