Full Professorship (W3) for Thoracic Surgery
(Succession of Prof. Dr. Bernward Passlick)
in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg to be filled as soon as possible or by month/year.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Thoracic Surgery in research and teaching. She/he will be the medical director of the Department of at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg
The applicant should have high internationally recognized clinical and scientific qualification and excellence in translational research. Interdisciplinary collaborations within a newly founded lung center, contributions to the research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine and participation in Freiburg research alliances will be expected.
The clinic covers the entire spectrum of the subject, including lung transplantation.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations for professors, the completion of a university degree in medicine, educational qualification, a very good doctorate degree, and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in Thoracic Surgery. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG).

at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to be filled by 1st October 2024.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in research and teaching. She/he will be the director of the department I (Abteilung I). Candidates should possess an excellent track record, including internationally recognized research achievements with publications in leading journals, acquisition of peer-reviewed external funding, experience in heading a scientific research group, and enthusiasm for teaching biochemistry and molecular biology. She/he should complement and expand the research portfolio of the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with up-to-date topics in the field of basic biochemical and molecular biological research. Interdisciplinary collaborations, active participation in research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine, and participation in research alliances of the University of Freiburg are expected.
Requirements for the appointment are compliance with the employment regulations for professors, a university degree in a life science subject, teaching qualification, and a very good doctorate degree. in the Institute for Digitalisation in Medicine to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Digital Transformation in Medicine
in research and teaching. She/he will be the director of the Institute for Digitalisation in
Medicine (IDIM) at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. We await research activities to
improve quality assurance in medicine in real-time and teaching activities promoting innovative
methods of knowledge sharing. To achieve these goals, internal resources and expertise
should be connected.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment

in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery (Medical Director: Prof. Dr. Martin Czerny) to be
filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position represents the speciality. Furthermore, the future holder will
be entrusted with the section "pediatric cardiac surgery and cardiac surgery of congenital heart
defects".
Pediatric cardiac surgery and cardiac surgery of congenital heart defects are located at the
Campus Freiburg, as the entire pediatric (cardiac) medicine is contextualized there. The entire
spectrum of pediatric cardiac surgical procedures (including new born cardiac surgery and
infant cardiac transplantation) as well as surgery of congenital heart defects in adults is
provided. There is a close and trusting collaboration with the Department for Congenital Heart
Defects and Pediatric Cardiology.
The applicant should have a high level of internationally recognised scientific and clinical
qualifications, as evidenced by high-ranking publications and the acquisition of third-party
funding. The willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation, active collaboration within the
research priorities areas of the Faculty of Medicine and participation in Freiburg research
networks, in particular the Collaborative Research Centre 1425, is expected.

The Department of Neurology and Neuroscience is part of the Neurocenter with close cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery with General and Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery incl. epilepsy center, and the Department of Neuroradiology as well as the Institute of Neuropathology.

Full Professorship (W3) for Translational Psychiatric Epigenetics
In the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Medical Director: Prof. Katharina Domschke) to be filled by 01.04.2024.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of translational psychiatric epigenetics in research and teaching by combining fundamental research in epigenetics with application to mental health and disorders.
We are seeking an internationally outstanding scientist in the field of epigenetics, who is able to integrate well into the research landscape of the Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology, University of Freiburg, and the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, Freiburg. Substantial contributions to the “Medical Epigenetics", "Functional Genetics", "Molecular Cell Research" and "Neurosciences" focus areas of the Medical Faculty as well as to overarching funding structures such as Collaborative Research Centres and Clusters of Excellence are expected. Of importance is the applicant’s scientific focus on basic mechanisms of epigenetics using model organisms such as Drosophila as well as innovative methodology to understand the molecular underpinnings of epigenetic diseases. We also wish for the candidate’s commitment to translate the basic molecular findings into an application to mental health. The candidate is expected to have an excellent, international publication record and a proven ability to attract third party funding from e.g. DFG and EU.

Full Professorship (W 3) for Immunomodulating oncogenic signal transduction
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) for Immunomodulating oncogenic signal transduction
in the Department of Medicine I (Specialities: Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation), to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field in research and teaching and fulfils tasks of patient care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The position is also associated with the clinical leadership of the Molecular Tumor Board at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg CCCF as well as the leadership of the section "Personalized Medicine" in the Department of Internal Medicine I.
The position holder should be a clinical expert in the field of personalized oncology and have a translational scientific focus in oncogenic signal transduction with relevant in vivo mouse models. In addition, the position holder is expected to competitively expand and lead the CCCF's Personalized Trials portfolio within the Molecular Tumor Board. The Department of Internal Medicine I performs compulsory teaching for the Human and Molecular Medicine programs. The position holder should be proven by teaching experience in these subjects.
Research experience abroad, the ability to attract competitive and high-ranking third-party funding (e.g. DFG, BMBF, EU, DKH etc.) as well as the willingness to participate in integrated research networks (ZPM, DNPM) is expected.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of molecular diagnostics in research and teaching. In addition, the professorship fulfils tasks of patient care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The main scientific focus will be on the field of genomic diagnostics including the Molecular Tumorboard and the Molecular Board of Inflammatory Diseases of the Center of Personalised Medicine. A close networking within the established research programs of the German Consortium of Translational Oncology (DKTK), Collaborative Research Centers (SFB) and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF) is planned.
The institute is responsible for compulsory courses in human, dental and molecular medicine. The jobholder should have teaching experiences in all teaching courses in the field of Pathology.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of Neuropathology in research and teaching and additionally is involved in clinical diagnostics tasks. The candidate is expected to strengthen the research activities in the institute in the field of Neuroimmunology and is invited to join ongoing research activities within the German Research Council (DFG) founded CRC/TRR167 NeuroMac on both basic science and clinical research in the field of experimental Neuropathology. The research of the institute focusses on the role of the innate immune system in the brain during inflammatory, neurodegenerative, demyelinating and neurooncological diseases. A close cooperation with the CRC 1160 IMPATH and with local research activities in the field of life sciences at the University is desirable. The candidate should have an own scientific profile including peer-reviewed publications and third party funding especially in the field of the functional role of the microbiome for CNS diseases with special focus on gut-microglia interactions during health and disease. The future holder of this position will represent the field of Urogynecology in research and teaching. The Faculty of Medicine is looking for an outstanding personality with a broad surgical and clinical experience in the entire field of gynecology with a specific focus on urogynecology (expertise in all vaginal and minimal-invasive surgical techniques) as well as designated experience in leadership. A certificate by the German Urogynecologic Society (AGUB) level II or III is mandatory. A close and interdisciplinary cooperation as well as active participation in establishing a certified pelvic floor center and integration in the faculty´s key aspects of research is requested. A special research focus on pregnancy and birth related alterations to the female pelvic floor including strategies to prevent pelvic floor disorders would be helpful.
