Clinical Trials Programme of the Research Commission

 

Internal call for proposals: Clinical Trials programme at the Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine is issuing the next call for proposals to its new round of start-up financing for clinical trials, subject to budgetary approval. This programme aims to provide financial support for pilot studies, which are essential for the planning of multicentric clinical studies. Results of these pilot studies form the essential groundwork for the excecution of further prospective, interventional, confirmatory and multicentric studies in patients with the ultimate goal of understanding the efficacy of novel therapeutic, diagnostic and prognostic modalities.

 

Eligibility and prerequisites for funding

Applicants

  • should have relevant experience in conducting clinical studies (e.g. as a qualified clinical trial investigator; german: Prüfarzt; Studienleiter);
  • should be able to present existing evidence to answer their chosen clinical question;
  • should possess prior background knowledge on their chosen topic;
  • must be employees of the Faculty of Medicine

 

Collaboration with the clinical trial unit (Studienzentrum)

The clinical trials unit provides guidance and assistance in a range of areas including the evaluation of the existing evidence, biometric and budget planning, and help with securing subsequent funding for the main study.

 

Extent of Funding

The funding sum is limited to a maximum of 50 000€ for each pilot study and does not cover travel expenditure for budgetary reasons. Budget plans will be vetted for appropriateness, so kindly ensure that cost estimates are realistic. Once approved, the funds must be spent entirely in 2023. Proposals should therefore include a detailed timeline outlining all potential expenses.

External funding for subsequent multicentric studies should be secured in a timely manner, e.g. as part of the DFG/BMBF Clinical Trials programme. Studies of direct commercial interest to business organisations are not eligible for funding.
