Horizon Europe: European Research Council (ERC)

The ERC Advanced Grant is aimed at established researchers who have a track-record of significant research achievements in the last 10 years. Advanced Grants may be awarded up to € 2.5 million for a period of 5 years.

The ERC Scientific Council has agreed on a tentative calendar. It is meant to allow the scientific community, including prospective applicants, to be prepared for the changes ahead of the publication of the individual calls. Horizon Europe: Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions (MSCA)

With the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the European Commission aims to promote transnational and intersectoral mobility and career development of researchers.
The Doctoral Networks promote doctoral training programmes by partnerships of international consortia from different sectors across Europe and beyond. These have a duration of 4 years with a funding period of 36 months for doctoral candidates. Doctoral candidates must comply with the mobility rule: they must not have resided in their target country for more than 12 month in the last 3 years before the date of their recruitment.

Call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship 2024

Postdoctoral Fellowships foster individual research projects of scientists in the first eight years after obtaining their doctorate. Within the project, funded researchers gain personal competences through interdisciplinary, international and intersectoral mobility.

Two research and innovation actions (RIA), two innovation actions (IA) and two coordination and support actions (CSA) have been announced:
- Accessible and affordable tests to advance early detection of heritable cancers in European regions (IA; three projects are expected to be funded)
- Support a pragmatic clinical trial programme by cancer charities (CSA; only one project is to be funded)
- Use cases for the UNCAN.eu research data platform (RIA; only one project is to be funded)
- Support dialogue towards the development of national cancer data nodes (CSA; only one project is to be funded)
- Improving the understanding and management of late-effects in adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer (RIA; six projects are expected to be funded)
- An information portal for the European Cancer Patient Digital Centre (IA; only one project is to be funded)

The Digtal Europe Programme currently has four topics with a health-related focus:
- 1+ Million Genomes: sustainability and uptake
- Demonstrating the in-service use of the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) in healthcare settings
- Supporting patients' access to their health data in the context of healthcare services for citizens across the EU
- Support for Health Data Access Bodies to foster efficient pathways for AI in healthcare
- AI in support of Quantum-Enhanced Metabolic Magnetic Resonance Imaging Systems

Horizon Europe: European Innovation Council (EIC)

Eligible in EIC Transition are results from previous projects (EIC Pathfinder, FET or ERC Proof of Concept). These project results should be the basis for ground-breaking innovation and new businesses. “Transition Open” has no predefined thematic priorities.

European Partnerships, Joint Programming and Joint Transnational Calls

IHI has pre-published the draft calls for proposals for the call 8. There are currently 4 topics planned for the two-stage call 8 which will be finalized and published on 25.06.2024. Applicants should check the final, approved topic texts after the call is published.
IHI call 8 (two-stage call)
- "A city-based approach to reducing cardiovascular mortality in Europe"
- "Novel endpoints for osteoarthritis (OA) by applying big data analytics"
- "Modelling regulatory sandbox mechanisms and enabling their deployment to support breakthrough innovation"
- "Patient-centred clinical-study endpoints derived using digital health technologies"

TRANSCAN-3 preannounces the launch of its 4th call for proposals (JTC 2024) on the topic of: "Combination therapies against cancer: new opportunities for translational research"
For the funding announcement, three objectives have been formulated:
- Aim 1. Development of new tumour derived models to test new drug combination therapies.
- Aim 2. Design and development of high-throughput drug combination screening platforms to test new combination therapies.
- Aim 3. Use of immunotherapy and radiotherapy combinations strategies to overcome drug resistance.
This call supports transnational collaborative projects involving max. 6 partners from at least 3 countries participating in the funding announcement.

Eurostars

The aim of Eurostars is to support European cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in research and development projects according to the "bottom-up principle". Therefore, German research institutions only receive funding if a German SME is involved.
