Full Professorship (W 3) for Anatomy with focus on Neuromodulation
In the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Department of Neuroanatomy, to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of anatomy in research and teaching.
We are seeking an internationally recognized researcher who will strengthen the neuroscience research areas of the Faculty of Medicine and the University, including current collaborative research projects and planned initiatives. We expect a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration in research and instruction with the clinical and theoretical science institutes of the Medical Center University of Freiburg and the University. Familiarity with the use of modern translational methods is desirable.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine, natural sciences or comparable degrees, educational qualification, and a very good doctorate degree. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG) in the area of anatomy.

At the Department of Neurology and Neuroscience to be filled by 1st October 2023.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Neurology in research and teaching. She*he will be the director of the Department of Neurology and Neuroscience at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
The applicant should have high internationally recognized scientific and clinical qualification and excellence in translational research, as evidenced by high-ranking publications und significant third party funding. Interdisciplinary collaborations, contributions to the research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine and participation in Freiburg research alliances will be expected.
The Department covers the entire spectrum of the subject with a wide supra-regional catchment area, an intensive care unit, a stroke unit, a section in the Universitäres Notfallzentrum (UNZ) and a geriatric division, as well as a telemedical network with twelve affiliated hospitals. The Department of Neurology and Neuroscience is part of the Neurocenter with close cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery with General and Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery incl. epilepsy center, and the Department of Neuroradiology as well as the Institute of Neuropathology.

Tenure Track-Professorship for Midwifery
The University of Freiburg invites applications for a
Tenure-Track Professorship for midwifery
at the Faculty of Medicine in the Institute of nursing sciences (director Prof. Christiane Kugler) to be filled as soon as possible.
This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered. This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers at an early stage in their careers. Conditions governing the appointment in accordance with section 51 (3) LHG apply.
The position holder should develop the subject of midwifery at the university and represent it in teaching and research. The central focus should be on the establishment and academic further development of the bachelor's degree program in midwifery, which qualifies the profession, in cooperation with the cooperation partners of the current clinical teaching units as part of the overall curriculum, with special emphasis on evidence-based interprofessional training approaches. We are looking for a young scientist who is willing to support and further develop scientific, clinical and didactic foci of midwifery with a research profile of her*his own and to promote the care of pregnant women, childbearing women, and women who have recently given birth as well as their families at the intersections of the different professions involved. Particular emphasis should be given on international networking. Acquisition of appraised third-party funds and participation in third-party funded projects are desirable. The establishment of cooperative research projects on midwifery research with reference to the main focus of the faculty is very welcome.
Prerequisites for the employment are a recognition of professional qualification as a midwife, a university degree in midwifery or human medicine or health sciences or related subjects in the life sciences, a dissertation, and an excellent publication record.
This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it will be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation.
The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science (https://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/service/tenure). As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W3) (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Medicine have to be met.

The future holder of this position will be responsible for the section dermato-immunology within the department, including scientific, teaching, and clinical activities. Requirements are clinical and scientific excellence in dermato-immunology as documented by scientific publications and competitive fund raising. The candidate should have both a long-term vision about developments in dermato-immunology and leadership experience. The focus of the professorship should fit to existing research collaborations in Freiburg such as the CRC 1160 IMPATH und the excellence clusters and should include translational aspects.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of translational psychiatric epigenetics in research and teaching by combining fundamental research in epigenetics with application to mental health and disorders.
We are seeking an internationally outstanding scientist in the field of epigenetics, who is able to integrate well into the research landscape of the Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology, University of Freiburg, and the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, Freiburg. Substantial contributions to the “Medical Epigenetics", "Functional Genetics", "Molecular Cell Research" and "Neurosciences" focus areas of the Medical Faculty as well as to overarching funding structures such as Collaborative Research Centres and Clusters of Excellence are expected. Of importance is the applicant’s scientific focus on basic mechanisms of epigenetics using model organisms such as Drosophila as well as innovative methodology to understand the molecular underpinnings of epigenetic diseases. We also wish for the candidate’s commitment to translate the basic molecular findings into an application to mental health. The candidate is expected to have an excellent, international publication record and a proven ability to attract third party funding from e.g. DFG and EU.

In the Department of Cardiology and Angiology, to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field in research and teaching and fulfils tasks of patient care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
The position involves 50% clinical work as attending physician in the Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology in the field of interventional cardiology and 50% scientific work in the field of basic and translational research with a scope on cardiovascular system immunology.
The clinical range of activities of the future holder of this position includes the care of outpatients and inpatients as well as the willingness to be involved in the interventional treatment of cardiovascular emergency cases. The position is associated with the management and further development of the research area "Cardiovascular System Immunology" at the interface of clinical cardiology, metabolism, and immunology. For the implementation of a systems medicine-oriented research approach, the focus of this position is set on the application of novel, high-parametric analysis methods and the development of clinical and experimental methods for the study of targeted immune modulation in cardiovascular diseases. This requires close interaction with the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine (IEKM) and research groups from local immunological and metabolic research clusters. In addition, active participation and networking within the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 1425 and successful acquisition of competitive research funding are expected. The position includes participation in teaching activities at the Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology as part of the study courses in Human Medicine and Molecular Medicine and the establishment of a cross-sectional area of "cardiovascular immunology" in interdisciplinary teaching.
Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in human medicine, educational qualification, a very good doctorate degree and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Several years of documented work as a Clinician Scientist are required. Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG).
Following a positive funding decision the position is initially limited to five years and according to § 50 para 2 LHG as an employee. After positive evaluation in the fifth year, the position will be extended to ten years.

The future holder of this position will be the Medical Director of the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
The applicant has teaching experience, clinical competence, and an outstanding expertise in the whole area including paediatric dentistry. The Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology is involved in the teaching curriculum of dental medicine. An active contribution and a permanent development of the teaching portfolio is expected. A particular engagement is required regarding the implementation of interdisciplinary and innovative teaching concepts within the scope of the new licensing law for dentists. The candidate should possess leading experience and a cooperative management style. She/he should closely cooperate with the different disciplines of the Center for Dental Medicine and the residential dentists. A scientific cooperation as part of the main research topics of the Faculty of Medicine and an active participation in the academic committees is desirable.

Full Professorship (W 3) for Immunomodulating oncogenic signal transduction

Full Professorship (W3) for Immunomodulating oncogenic signal transduction
in the Department of Medicine I (Specialities: Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation), to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field in research and teaching and fulfils tasks of patient care at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The position is also associated with the clinical leadership of the Molecular Tumor Board at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg CCCF as well as the leadership of the section "Personalized Medicine" in the Department of Internal Medicine I.
The position holder should be a clinical expert in the field of personalized oncology and have a translational scientific focus in oncogenic signal transduction with relevant in vivo mouse models. In addition, the position holder is expected to competitively expand and lead the CCCF's Personalized Trials portfolio within the Molecular Tumor Board. The Department of Internal Medicine I performs compulsory teaching for the Human and Molecular Medicine programs. The position holder should be proven by teaching experience in these subjects.
Research experience abroad, the ability to attract competitive and high-ranking third-party funding (e.g. DFG, BMBF, EU, DKH etc.) as well as the willingness to participate in integrated research networks (ZPM, DNPM) is expected.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of molecular diagnostics in research and teaching. The future holder of this position will represent the field of Neuropathology in research and teaching and additionally is involved in clinical diagnostics tasks. This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered. This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers at an early stage in their careers. Suitable candidates will be expected to develop and represent the special field inter-professionalism in research and teaching, thus, expertise in clinical and interprofessional research and teaching are desirable. This appointment seeks for a junior scientist personality with strong research skills, and for her or his capability to enhance scientific, clinical, and didactic areas in Nursing Science with a special focus on outcome research and cross-sectoral interfaces for healthcare research of different participating healthcare professions. Emphasis on the applicants’ track record of international networking and collaboration will be given. Experiences in the successful application for peer-reviewed third-party grants and budgets and collaboration within third-party funded research projects are desirable. The future holder of this position is expected to set up a section for psychodynamic psychosomatics, to represent this topic in research and teaching, and also to take on responsibilities in clinical care at Freiburg University Medical Centre. The clinical activities are primarily intended to be carried out in the psychodynamic training institute as part of the department; a leading position is also envisioned given the appropriate qualifications. Teaching activities will also be mainly located here. The establishment of a scientific focus in the field of psychodynamic psychosomatics can integrate one's own areas of interest; it is to be preferred to have a potential of being linked to the field of occupational psychosomatics. Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree in medicine (ideally with at least advanced training in "Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy" or "Psychiatry and Psychotherapy") or in psychology followed by qualified training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W 3) for Clinical Infectious Diseases (Succession of Prof. Winfried Kern) in the Department of Medicine II (specialties: gastroenterology, hepatology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases) at the Medical Center-University of Freiburg to be filled by April 1st, 2021. The future holder of this position will represent the field of Clinical Infectious Diseases in research and teaching. She/he will be the head of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine II. The division is responsible for the medical care of adult in- and outpatients with complex infectious and tropical diseases, runs an infectious diseases consultation service, coordinates and organizes hospital-wide interdisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship activities, and offers special outpatient clinics incl. for tropical diseases, travel medicine, vaccination, and refugee/migrant health. A close cooperation with the pediatric infectious disease division, the center for chronic immune deficiency, and the institutes of the center for microbiology, virology and hygiene is existing. We look for a person with leadership skills, outstanding scientific qualifications and profound clinical competencies in all fields of clinical infectious diseases. The future holder of this position should actively engage in shaping the strategic development of the Freiburg Center for Infection, be involved in and initiate interdisciplinary cooperative research incl. innovative clinical studies. Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine, educational qualification, an exceptional doctorate degree in medicine, and a board certification in internal medicine and infectious diseases (Facharztanerkennung, Zusatzweiterbildung). Applicants should have a Habilitation or an equivalent qualification (§ 47 Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG). The scientific achievements of the future holder of the position should be demonstrated by an excellent publication record in high quality academic journals and by acquisition of significant third-party funding. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W 3) for Virology with focus on Molecular Virology to be filled by October 1st, 2019. The future holder of this position will represent the field of virology in research and teaching. The candidate should strengthen the established research priorities of the institute by focussing on topics of virus-host interaction, viral pathogenesis or viral genomics. In addition to competent knowledge in virology the successful candidate is expected to have internationally visible research achievements, documented success in external fund raising, publications in internationally leading journals and commitment to teaching in virology. A close networking with the DFG-funded collaborative research centers and participation in teaching duties in medicine, molecular medicine, biology and pharmacy is expected. Participation in patient services is optional.
