Tenure-Track Professorship for Psychodynamic Psychsomatics

The University of Freiburg invites applications for the

Tenure-Track Professorship for Psychodynamic Psychosomatics

At the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy to be filled as soon as possible.

This is a grade W 1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered. This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers at an early stage in their careers. Conditions governing the appointment in accordance with section 51 (3) LHG apply.

The future holder of this position is expected to set up a section for psychodynamic psychosomatics, to represent this topic in research and teaching, and also to take on responsibilities in clinical care at Freiburg University Medical Centre. The clinical activities are primarily intended to be carried out in the psychodynamic training institute as part of the department; a leading position is also envisioned given the appropriate qualifications. Teaching activities will also be mainly located here.

The establishment of a scientific focus in the field of psychodynamic psychosomatics can integrate one's own areas of interest; it is to be preferred to have a potential of being linked to the field of occupational psychosomatics.

Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree in medicine (ideally with at least advanced training in "Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy" or "Psychiatry and Psychotherapy") or in psychology followed by qualified training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record.

This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it will be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W 3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation. At this point at the latest, a specialist qualification (“Facharzt”) or licence to practise as a psychological psychotherapist is required. The position is filled as an employee.

The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure Track Professorships and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science (https://uni-freiburg.de/zuv/service/tenure/). As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship (W 3) (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Faculty of Medicine have to be met.

Muskuloskeletal Cancer Surgery

in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (medical director: Prof. Dr. Hagen Schmal) to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship is simultaneously associated with the head position of the section cancer orthopaedics.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of Orthopaedic Surgery with the focus of Musculoskeletal Cancer Surgery in research and teaching in close association with the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Freiburg and the Centre for Metastasis – Therapy at the Medical Centre - University of Freiburg. It is intended to strengthen the research in cooperation with the Centre for Tissue Replacement (G.E.R.N), biomaterial research, biomechanics, and the research cluster BrainLinks – BrainTools. The position should bridge surgery and rehabilitation in an amputation centre.

Requirements for the appointment are in addition to the compliance with the employment regulations, the completion of a university degree in medicine, educational qualification, a doctorate degree, an excellent publication record and a board certification in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery as well as the additional qualification for Special Orthopaedic Surgery. The future holder of this position will represent the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in research and teaching. She/he will be the chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.

Interdisciplinary collaborations, contributions to the research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine and participation in Freiburg research alliances will be expected. In detail, close collaborations within the Department of Mental Disorders as well as with the Faculty research focus areas „Neuroscience“, „Medical Epigenetics, Functional Genetics and Metabolism Research“, „Immunology“ and/or „Functional Imaging“ are desirable.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of plastic surgery and hand surgery in research and teaching. She/he will be the chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Medical Center- University of Freiburg.

The spectrum covers the entire breadth of the speciality, in particular interdisciplinary reconstructive microsurgery, hand surgery and aesthetic surgery. The clinic is actively involved in several interdisciplinary centers (CCCF, sarcomas, facial nerve, breast, vascular malformations) and in the Department of Surgery, and pursues modern training concepts including aesthetic surgery.

in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, to be filled as soon as possible.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of Urogynecology in research and teaching.

The Faculty of Medicine is looking for an outstanding personality with a broad surgical and clinical experience in the entire field of gynecology with a specific focus on urogynecology (expertise in all vaginal and minimal-invasive surgical techniques) as well as designated experience in leadership. A certificate by the German Urogynecologic Society (AGUB) level II or III is mandatory.

A close and interdisciplinary cooperation as well as active participation in establishing a certified pelvic floor center and integration in the faculty´s key aspects of research is requested. A special research focus on pregnancy and birth related alterations to the female pelvic floor including strategies to prevent pelvic floor disorders would be helpful.

The applicant should be able to prove the acquirement of third-party donors or grants. Both national and international networking as well as collaboration with the German Urogynecologic Society (AGUB) is anticipated.

in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery to be filled by 1 April 2022.

The chosen candidate will represent the field of cardiac surgery in research and teaching and will serve as director of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen. The University Heart Center was integrated into the Medical Center – University of Freiburg on 1 April 2021.

The University Heart Center Freiburg Bad Krozingen has an excellent network of contacts across Germany and a strong international reputation. The new professor in this position will be responsible for further consolidating the University Heart Center’s national and international position. One particular requirement is a high degree of integrative adaptability, allowing to foster and consolidate the incorporation of the University Heart Center into the Medical Center – University of Freiburg is successfully managed. As a prerequisite, a collegial, interdisciplinary and innovative approach for the working attitude as well as in the use of resources across different disciplines and sites is mandatory.

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery is split between two sites (Freiburg and Bad Krozingen). It performs the full spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures on adults and children (including infant heart transplants). In the field of vascular surgery, the entire spectrum of arterial and venous procedures are carried out.

With the appointment of a new professor to this role, the University Heart Center aims to build on its existing research partnerships within the scope of collaborative funding instruments, including the Collaborative Research Centre 1425 and Freiburg’s CardioVascular BioBank, as well as cooperation within the cardiovascular disciplines and the focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Freiburg.

in the Department of Cardiology and Angiology to be filled by 1 April 2022.

The chosen candidate will represent the field of internal medicine with a speciality in cardiology in research and teaching and will serve as director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology at the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen. The University Heart Center was integrated into the Medical Center – University of Freiburg on 1 April 2021.

The University Heart Center Freiburg Bad Krozingen has an excellent network of contacts across Germany and a strong international reputation. The new professor in this position will be responsible for further consolidating the University Heart Center’s national and international position. One particular requirement is a high degree of adaptability, allowing the chosen candidate to integrate into the Center in their role as a leader, as well as the ability to drive integration and ensure that the currently separate Departments of Cardiology and Angiology I and II at the Freiburg and Bad Krozingen sites are successfully merged into a single department. Candidates must demonstrate a collegial, interdisciplinary and innovative approach to their work, including in the use of resources across different disciplines and sites.

In terms of clinical experience, they must be confident leaders with a mastery of the entire breadth of cardiology, although the University Heart Center specialises in particular in interventional measures. The newly appointed professor should also be able to confidently treat complex coronary lesions and complicated structural heart disease. They should uphold the University Heart Center’s focus on interventional cardiology and its role as a centre of reference for this field in the state of Baden-Württemberg and in large parts of Germany.

Candidates should also be able to demonstrate outstanding work in basic medical research.

The future holder of this position aims to build on existing research partnerships within the scope of collaborative funding instruments, including the Collaborative Research Centre 1425 (ScarCare), as well as cooperation within the cardiovascular disciplines and the focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Freiburg.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of Clinical Infectious Diseases in research and teaching. She/he will be the head of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine II.

The division is responsible for the medical care of adult in- and outpatients with complex infectious and tropical diseases, runs an infectious diseases consultation service, coordinates and organizes hospital-wide interdisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship activities, and offers special outpatient clinics incl. for tropical diseases, travel medicine, vaccination, and refugee/migrant health. A close cooperation with the pediatric infectious disease division, the center for chronic immune deficiency, and the institutes of the center for microbiology, virology and hygiene is existing.

We look for a person with leadership skills, outstanding scientific qualifications and profound clinical competencies in all fields of clinical infectious diseases. The future holder of this position should actively engage in shaping the strategic development of the Freiburg Center for Infection, be involved in and initiate interdisciplinary cooperative research incl. innovative clinical studies.

in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Regional Plastic Surgery, Division Translational Implantology of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg to be filled as soon as possible. This is a grade W 1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered.

This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.

The junior professorship is intended to strengthen the digitization of dental implantology in clinical care, teaching and research. The job holder should develop and expand the interdisciplinary clinical application of the digital workflow in implantology in collaboration with the Departments of the Center for Dental Medicine. The job holder should have knowledge in the interface area between Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthetics and have implant-surgical training.

The research focus lies in the field of virtual anatomical data collection, in-depth knowledge of the methods for optical image data analysis as well as the utilization of three-dimensional anatomical image data are desired. Collaborations with the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology - Medical Physics and the Fraunhofer Ernst-Mach-Institut (EMI) Freiburg already exist and are to be intensified within the framework of the professorship.

Prerequisites for the employment are a university degree in dental medicine, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record in international peer-reviewed journals with a focus on digital implantology. International experience in patient-care and clinical studies are requested.

This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it can be extended by two years.

In addition, new approaches in Computational Imaging are part of the research profile. Key areas of applications are neurology and neuroscience, oncology, and cardiovascular applications.

Candidates are expected to present an excellent track record in pertinent field research with a wide scientific focus and especially demonstrate successful accomplishments in translation of the scientific and technical developments into clinical practice. The ideal candidates are expected to pursue highly innovative imaging research projects at the frontiers of radiologic science and should demonstrate their ability to successfully raise extramural funding. The candidates should furthermore have experience in scientific leadership of large projects. Broad international network, industrial collaborations in the area of MR technology and applications, and experience in IP affairs are of advantage.
